Growing Herbs for an Edible and Drought Tolerant Garden

Growing herbs is a way to grow plants with many uses.

With limited space and restricted water, we want to grow plants that will pull double duty, and growing herbs makes that possible. Creating a garden that is beautiful and useful is easier than you think. With the right choices, you could have a garden that produces edible flowers and plants, attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, and is easy to plant and grow, requiring less water, and rarely has insect problems.

The secret is choosing herbs. Fresh herbs can be expensive if you buy them in the grocery store. Planting them in the yard allows you to have them available whenever you need. Instead of harvesting the whole plant, we usually just take a few leaves, and it isn’t even noticable in the garden. The photos include chives, mint, rosemary, cilantro and various kinds of basil.
