A trip to the farm can be a fun and educational outing, as well as an opportunity to get some of the best local produce. Gizdich ranch offers a picnic area and sells homemade pies as well as apples and berries.Read More
Tony and I had the pleasure of photographing at Buttercup Cakes and Farmhouse frosting yesterday. Easily the cutest cupcake shop I’ve ever been in, and the cupcakes taste like my grandmother used to make – homemade, buttery – but so much prettier! Carren, one of the owners told us how they make the buttery frosting and it stays looking beautiful on wedding cakes even for outdoor weddings, so a couple doesn’t have to choose between a gorgeous cake and one that taste incredible.Read More

Beautiful Cupcakes …all dressed up for the tea party. My Cupcake Corner makes delicious cupcakes decorated for all sorts of occasions and events. They all have fillings that make them extra special (the Bonny Dune blackberries are fantastic!) Kelly, the owner, told me they are very popular for weddings because everyone gets their own little cake, and the couple saves the cost of cake cutting. She has a line of booze cakes just for such an occasion. They are local, vegan, organic, and she sells through the internet and at a pop-up stand – doesn’t get much more Santa Cruz than that!

I recently discovered Mika’s Cupcakes for Shelter, located in Hayward www.mikascupcakes.com. The cupcakes are so cute, and incredible delicious! – not that I am a cupcake connoisseur or anything (oh wait, yes I am!) But they also have such a nice story behind the company – the owners created it to help the homeless families they were helping to support.Read More
Annabel and Tylon were married at the family estate in the Almaden Valley, south of San Jose on July 15, 2017. They wanted the wedding to be a romantic, semi formal affair, with a slight Victorian look. The estate, with it’s tree-lined creek and large shaded lawn was the perfect place. The bride was gorgeous in her Amelia Sposa gown and the groom was handsome in a white dinner jacket. Even the cake looked regal.

Carolyn and Darby were surrounded by friends and family as they said their vows on June 24, 2017. A beautiful sunny day and a lovely setting in the redwoods made it a perfect day for a wedding. After the official ceremony one guest after another came up to tell the couple how much they meant to them and what a happy occasion it was.
It’s hard to find a location that is more romantic than the Shadowbrook restaurant in Capitola-by-the-Sea. The historic restaurant with it’s stained glass windows and cozy atmosphere just makes for a perfect wedding location. Ariel and Jonathan were married here on June 11, 2017, surrounded by close friends and family.
On a sunny day in June, Venus and David were married at the Chaminade Resort in Santa Cruz. The bride is a pilot, so there was a plane theme woven throughout the champagne and dusty rose florals at the reception. The bride and groom had been friends since they were children, so photos of them decorated the ceremony chairs and the reception hall. The bride’s relatives designed the decorations for the formal cake, and the cakes were topped with photo characters of the bride and groom as children.
Susan and Arrin were married in the historic mission at San Juan Bautista on April 22, 2017. They wanted the wedding to be romantic and timeless and thought the historic mission, with it’s rose garden courtyard, was the perfect place. Susan is from Scotland, and brother, sister and close friend traveled all the way from Scotland for the wedding. She wore a long champagne gown with vintage lace and amazing flowery sleeves. A highland bagpiper played as she walked the corridor to the mission doors and entered, starting the ceremony with a regal entrance. After a short receiving line in the rose garden, the guests were led by the bagpiper to the reception at Casa Maria.
Janine and David met at a reunion a few years ago, and it was clear that they were meant to be together. They were wed at the lovely Nestldown wedding venue in Los Gatos on a beautiful July day. Both Janine and David love the redwoods and there was a redwood theme weaving it’s way through the wedding. The programs were DIY graphic on brown paper and miniature photos and wooden clothes pins. The guests signed a large wooden plank and received a parting gift in handcrafted wooden boxes. After the ceremony in the outdoor natural redwood “chapel” in front of the lake, the miniature train delivered the couple to the cocktail hour in the foxglove meadow. They had an area for playing bocci and a decorated stand with a blackboard for taking photos and writing well wishes for the couple. Photos were taken by the lake and in the redwood grove and in front of the fairytale cottage. Coming from an Italian family, Janine made special Italian cookies for the occasion. Farm tables were brought in to make the wedding a large family affair, and decorated with roses garlands and olive swags.
